I promised myself that I would share my experience with Etihad Airways. Because even if it is just a little bit, I’d like to help. I have written about everything I can remember, right here. Just look for the categories on the right hand side, or down below if you’re on your mobile..
I am a Chef. I studied at The Prue Leith Chefs Academy in Centurion, South Africa. I am obsessed with travelling. I love to eat. I take way too many pictures. And finally, I am an In-Flight Chef for Etihad Airways and part of the Cabin Crew team.
The processes for Cabin Crew, Food and Beverage Managers and In-Flight Chefs are all the same, with tiny variations here and there.
Here we go then, from paperwork to preparing for your Open Days (OD), Assessment Day (AD), what to wear, what NOT to wear, the horrid waiting game, the emails, the paperwork, the Date of Joining (DOJ), the contract, the tickets, the goodbyes and did I mention the paperwork? I’ll also keep posting as much as I can now that I am finally here.
Please ask me anything you want to know, I will get back to you as soon as I can. Or follow me on Instagram to find out where I am and feel free to chat to me there too!
This was one of the most stressful things I have ever done. Believe me when I say that if you don’t succeed the first time, DO NOT GIVE UP! It took me 3 OD’s and 2 AD’s to get in, and now I can say that I have never been happier!

this is my dream. but i have hesitation on applying, i have scar on my arms do you think mybe it will disqualify me on my application?
Hi, sorry for the late reply, your scar shouldnt be an issue, depending on the severity, just go to the assessment and let the recruiters decide. 🙂
That’s for the Instagram love. … #Cheflife
Hi Imke,
How long does the police clearance process take?
Hi! Police clearence depends on the country you’re in, you’ll have to ask them 🙂
Hi, sorry I forgot to type “in South Africa”. Thanks for replying. I was told it can take up to a month.
Hi. Was so excited to come across your blog but see no updates since December 2015. Is it still active?
Hi Imke, I’m so glad I found your blog, it is incredibly exciting and I throughly enjoyed reading your posts! I’m currently in the process of my application with Etihad for cabin crew and so happy I found a fellow South African, thank you for the insight on your assessment day, it really helped with my preparation, I’m patiently waiting for a new assessment day as the scheduled one for 2017 was postponed… can’t wait for new posts on your experiences, I love reading them! Hopefully I’ll be joining you soon
xx
Hi! My name is Caroline. I come from Poland. I am a student of the second-degree studies in tourism and recreation. I am writing my master’s thesis about leisure and the ways of spending it by a cabin crew. I’d like to ask you some questions about your leisure. If you want to help, I’ll be grateful. 🙂
